Great children’s photographers will make the whole incident fun for the little kids and as cheerful as possible for parents. Dragging a child to the photo studio and making him sit still while some stranger pokes a camera in his face is not going to give the outcome you want. Photographers, who are experienced working with young ones, know that they have an intuition on how to read elders. They can tell instantly if the adult actually likes kids or is just putting up with them. If they sense the latter, you may have just found the point why your generally well behaved child acts like a wrong doer at the photographers.

If you want to be an effective children’s photographer you have to let the kids have fun. You have to attempt to converse with them on their level without being patronizing. You also have to understand children. It is amazing how many camera experts will expect a kid to sit quiet for what appears like hours while they adopt this pose or that. This is just ridiculous. When you work with kids you must work fast. In reality you only have a couple of minutes, sometimes even less than that, to get the snap right. This doesn't permit for amateur slips. Kids get uninterested really fast and their behavior will start to worsen.

In addition to working fast, you need to provide them a time out as soon as you see they are getting bored. Hopefully then you can re-engage their concentration and take more photos. Before you even start taking photographs of the child, the expert should have agreed with the parents the nature of shots they want and how many. Having a solid plan in mind and knowing just what you want to happen will help to cut short any issues. Also the better your children’s photographer communicates with you, i.e. the customer the more likely you are to realize a satisfied outcome.
